Saint-Martin - SXM · Wear the island

Our Story

CHAPTER 1

The Hurricane

Hurricane Luis is upon the island. 130 mph winds — a rare fury that Saint-Martin hadn’t seen since 1960. At the Mont-Vernon hotel, shutters slam, palms bend, the world shrinks to a few rooms where strangers wait together for it to pass.

Kharim is there. Sophie too.

They don’t speak. They may not even notice each other. The island, however, is taking notes.

CHAPTER 2

The Meeting

Kharim is surfing that day, as he often does. Sophie is there — as if the island had waited a full year to get things right. One wave. One glance.

This time it isn’t the accident of a hurricane. It’s a quiet certainty.

There won’t be a “someday.” No “we’ll see.” Just that soft, definitive knowing that islands can offer when they’ve chosen someone for you.

Twenty-nine years later, they still haven’t parted.

CHAPTER 3

Life Elsewhere

Sophie is pregnant with their first daughter. A job opportunity comes up in Switzerland. They have to leave. “A few years,” they think. Deep down, you never really know.

Those few years stretched to twenty-three.

Three children were born — a daughter, a son, a daughter. A family built itself far from the trade winds. But an island doesn’t let go that easily: every return to SXM, every summer of reunion, reminded them that something was waiting.

Their son understood before they did. A dive instructor at Bubble Shop, he came back first — as if the island had passed the call on to the next generation.

CHAPTER 4

The Return by Sea

You don’t return to Saint-Martin in economy class when the island has been waiting twenty-three years.

You return by sea.

Aboard Zéphyr, their Bali 4.1 catamaran, Kharim and Sophie crossed the Atlantic. Not once. Three times. Three crossings, weeks of open ocean, night watches, Caribbean squalls, and that horizon that, day after day, brought the island back toward them.

They came home in 2020.

Since then, they live aboard.

Zéphyr is their home. The Caribbean is their backyard. They sail their guests from island to island on private charters — because you only truly understand the Caribbean from the sea, anchored out, when the lights of Grand-Case come on and the wind drops.

Three children, three crossings, a son exploring the island’s depths while they explore its anchorages. The whole family has finally come home.

CHAPTER 5

My SXM

Not a souvenir brand. A memory brand.

Every piece carries a fragment of what Saint-Martin taught them: that a hurricane can set a scene. That a wave can seal a life. That 34 square miles are enough to hold two countries, two languages, a thousand shades of blue — and sometimes, an entire lifetime.

That the island, always, finds a way to call you back.

My SXM is the island you carry with you. In a hoodie for cool evenings in Grand-Case. In a cap for early mornings aboard Zéphyr. In a mug for coffees that, in Paris, New York or Montreal, still carry a hint of salt.

Live the Island Life.

It is an invitation. And a promise.
